John received a BSc in Psychology from the University of York in 2011, and a PhD in Neural Dynamics from the University of Bristol in 2015. He was a postdoc at the University of Bristol, and the University of Oxford before joining the lab.

His past work has looked at how dopamine and Parkinson’s disease affect cognitive functions like reinforcement learning, short-term memory, motivation, and decision-making. His current work uses electroencephalography and computational modelling to investigate how internal noise can be measured in decision-making, and how ageing affects decision-making processes.
